Former Raptors Head Coach in Consideration For Front Office Role With The Team
Jul 28, 2025
Dwane Casey was once the Coach of the Year with the Toronto Raptors, but unfortunately, it was the year after he was fired that the team won their first and only NBA title. Of course, there were other factors that played into that, with the team acquiring Kawhi Leonard to make the run happen, and most crediting the culture that Casey built over the years as a key piece in that title-winning campaign.
Between 2018 and 2023, Casey worked as the Head Coach for the Detroit Pistons before transitioning into a role in the front office, with many seeing him as a future General Manager in the NBA.
Now, he may be tempted to return to Toronto, with reports emerging that he has met with MLSE President Keith Pelley about the Team President role for the Raptors.
Before being fired after the 2018 season, Casey spent seven years behind the bench in Toronto, and while there wasn't much playoff success due to the team constantly running into LeBron James in the playoffs, he became beloved by Raptors fans. Now, the team is in an intriguing spot with a core of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, R.J. Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley, and if there's anyone that can help take them to the next level, it may be Casey.
For now, it's unclear just how close Casey is to being named the Raptors' Team President, but after moving on from Masai Ujiri, it's safe to say that there aren't many better fits out there.
