Chicago Bulls Officially Extend Head Coach Billy Donovan On Multi-Year Deal
Jul 29, 2025
The Chicago Bulls have been the definition of mediocre in recent years, with the team finishing between 9th and 13th in the Eastern Conference every year since 2017/18, with the exception of a sixth-place finish in 2021/22.
Since 2020/21, it's been Billy Donovan at the helm, and given the lack of elite-level talent that he's been given on the roster, it's safe to say that he's potentially overachieved in his role. The Bulls potentially feel the same way, as it was announced on Sunday that the Bulls have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with their Head Coach, as many believe he's a key piece that will bring the Bulls back into being genuine contenders in the East.
In his entire NBA career, Donovan has coached in exactly 800 games, posting a 438-362 record in that time for Oklahoma City and Chicago, with the Bulls winning 39 or more games in the last four seasons under Donovan. The 60-year-old is reportedly very respected within the Bulls locker room, and now, he's set to be the coach for several more years to come as this team looks to finally push for a genuine postseason spot.
Currently, the roster is led by the likes of Coby White, Josh Giddey, Nikola Vucevic, Patrick Williams, and Ayo Dosunmu, which isn't a roster that many believe could be a postseason contender. However, Donovan continues to get the best out of them and is reportedly a very good leader and a very likable coach, so now we will see over the coming years if he can turn that into any type of success with this roster.
