Golden State Warriors Likely To Reunite With Talented Guard Gary Payton II
Aug 28, 2025
The Golden State Warriors have been one of the quietest teams in the NBA this off-season, with many waiting on a resolution on the Jonathan Kuminga situation before seeing more moves. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we'll be knowing more about Kuminga's future anytime soon, meaning that any Warriors moves are likely on hold for the time being.
Those rumoured moves include the signing of Al Horford and DeAnthony Melton, and now, it's all but confirmed that the team will reunite with Gary Payton II when the time comes.
According to Jake Fischer, the expectation around the league is that Payton will return to the Warriors this summer as a free agent after appearing in 62 games with the team a season ago. In that time, the 32-year old averaged 7 points and 3 boards per game, and with this team needing great defense off the bench, he's the perfect role player for them.

Given the drama around Kuminga, it's unclear exactly when we'll see Payton or the other rumoured Warriors signings happen, but when they become possible, Payton is expected to be among them. At this point in his career, Payton isn't at his best, but given the presence and versatility, he brings, the signing is simply a no-brainer in Golden State.
With the signing of Payton, this team is deep, and they'll need every bit of that in a loaded Western Conference, but as always, the Warriors will only go as far as Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler take them.
