New Report Reveals Surprise Update On Malik Beasley's Legal Situation
Aug 26, 2025
Malik Beasley has been in the middle of plenty of drama this summer, although this past week, it was revealed that the investigation into potential sports betting was officially behind him. Now, a new report from Front Office Sports has revealed that may not be the case after all, as Beasley remains a subject in the investigation.
"Malik Beasley isn’t fully in the clear from the federal gambling investigation—though he’s no longer considered a “target” in the Eastern District of New York’s probe, he remains a “subject,” meaning his conduct is still under review and charges are possible, something his lawyers have acknowledged."
After missing out on a potential three-year, $42 million from the Pistons, the belief was that he was clear and good to sign with an NBA team now, but this report has potentially changed that stance. While he's still able to return to an NBA team and sign somewhere as a free agent this off-season, the chance that he may indeed be charged may hinder teams from possibly looking into him as a free agent.

The 29-year old posted his highest PPG since 2020/21 this past season, tallying 16 points a night while shooting 42% from three, making him a very attractive free agent target for contenders. It's unclear yet whether or not this latest report will ward off those potential contenders, but after being cleared as a target of the investigation, there's a good chance a team may take a shot on his shooting upside ahead of the 2025/26 season.
