Reporter Reveals WNBA and WNBPA Unlikely to Reach a Deal on a new CBA

The WNBA is booming in popularity over the past few seasons, and the business behind the league is certainly growing as well. With the arrival of players like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers, fans across the world have taken notice, and with many more to come in the next few years, they've established themselves as a truly elite basketball league.

However, there's been talk of issues behind the scenes with the WNBA and the WNBPA, and now, everything appears set to come to a head.

This October, the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the two parties reaches its end, and while many had hoped for a new deal, a report has now suggested that that outcome is now highly unlikely.

In an explosive comment, WNBPA executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson had this to say about the league, who she believes is simply running out the clock before October 31.

“The players are working diligently to achieve a transformational CBA that builds on the growth, momentum, and positive news surrounding women’s sports and the W. As we approach the 60-day mark, the league’s lack of urgency leaves players wondering if it is focused on making this work or just running out the clock. Fans do not want that. They are with the players in demanding a new standard for the W.”

With the business of the WNBA growing each year, this isn't a good look for the league, and while there's a chance an extension can happen in the next two months, this increases the chance for a lockout, a move that simply doesn't help either party.
