Kevin Durant Suggests Major Interest in a New Format Over All-Star Weekend
Aug 28, 2025
Kevin Durant will go down in NBA history as one of, if not the greatest scorers in the league, and even as he approaches 40, he remains incredibly efficient and dominant. Unsurprisingly, he'd be the perfect candidate for the long rumoured 1v1 tournament at All-Star Weekend, and recently, he addressed that exact topic with Draymond Green.
In his chat with his former teammate, Durant expressed a desire to compete in a potential 1v1 tournament, noting that if it was for $1 million, it would be a major hit involving many players around the league. In doing so, he name dropped Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Kyrie Irving and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that should be competing in the tournament.

This past season, we saw the NBA try and switch up their programming at All-Star weekend, but once again it failed, as the fan interest in the weekend continues to fall more and more by the year. However, a 1v1 tournament with some of the biggest names in the league would be an incredible chance for players to put their money where their mouth is, with KD likely the favourite if this ever happened.
This has long been a topic among fans, but the belief for many is that the best NBA players would not want to put their egos on the line and compete. For now though, Durant has expressed his interest, and if other top players in the league do the same, there's a possibility that we could see a groundbreaking change at All-Star weekend.
