New York Knicks Continuing To Show Strong Interest in Free Agent Ben Simmons
Aug 20, 2025
The New York Knicks have been one of the NBA's best teams over the past two years, and after an Eastern Conference Finals run, they're ready to take the next step. The team recently inked Mikal Bridges to a massive extension, while also adding the duo of Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson on free agency deals, but they may not be done.
At this point in time, the Knicks have one open spot on their roster for a player on a veteran's minimum, with the team eyeing up several different names for the role. So far, the most popular among NBA reporters has been Ben Simmons, coming off a solid campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers.
“ Ben Simmons is certainly a candidate for the Knicks’ final roster spot. As of earlier this week, New York continued to show strong interest in signing Simmons as teams in on Simmons await his decision. „
According to Begley, the Knicks have continued to show strong interest in the veteran guard, who, with his height could also show versatility and play other positions off the bench for New York. However, the biggest potential detractor holding this deal back is his willingness to take the veteran minimum, with other teams out there options for much more money.
In 2024/25, Simmons had a solid bounceback campaign, but still wasn't perfect as he posted 5 points, 6 assists, and 5 boards a night in 22 minutes for Brooklyn and LA. If he is willing to take the minimum, the Knicks make sense for the versatile defender that can impact the game in many ways if healthy, and if the market doesn't develop further for him, don't be surprised to see Simmons end up in New York once more.
