Derrick White Opens Up On Boston's Championship Core Being Broken Up
Sep 5, 2025
Less than 18 months ago, Derrick White and the Boston Celtics stormed their way to the 2024 NBA Championship, but now the team is a shell of that squad after some mass changes this off-season. Following the injury to Jayson Tatum, the team traded both Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, and now, they head into the 2025/26 campaign as a team that not many expect to make noise in the East.
For the players that remain, this must be a tough and shocking change given how quickly things happened, with the team a favourite to win in 2025 before meeting the rival New York Knicks.
Now, star guard Derrick White has opened up on the Championship core being split up so quickly, wishing them the best but also addressing how quickly things happened.
“That is the tough part about the business. But it is a business at the end of the day. Jrue, KP, Luke, all of them, it was definitely tough to see them leave… I always wish them the best.”
Unfortunately, above all else the NBA remains a business, and after Tatum was revealed to miss all of the 2025/26 season, it simply didn't make sense for the team to hold on for another season. Instead, they moved some of their pieces, adding future assets and clearing up salary cap space, and when Tatum rejoins the likes of White, Pritchard and Brown, this team will once again be a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.
