NBA Set To Shake Up Their All-Star Format With Major Change For 2026
Sep 5, 2025
The NBA's All-Star Game has become one of the most stale events on the basketball calendar, and with a complete lack of effort from players, it's dwindled in popularity among even the most hardcore fans.
This has led to many suggestions towards Adam Silver on how to change things, with Kevin Durant even suggesting that he'd be interested in a 1v1 tournament over the All-Star break weekend. However, the NBA has now announced changes to the format next season, as they've seemingly taken inspiration from the NHL's Four Nations Face Off from 2025.
According to reports, the league are turning to a round-robin tournament made up of three teams of eight players, two from the United States and one made up of the World All-Stars. On paper, this may be the most exciting change the NBA has made in recent years, but as we've seen before, the players simply do not care, and it's made the All-Star weekend near unwatchable for many fans.
However, the hope is that this new format and representing their home countries will motivate players to finally play hard, but if not, it's another change and another year wasted from Adam Silver and the entire NBA.
Ultimately, only time will tell whether or not this is a good change, as many have been excited for other changes that have been made to the All-Star weekend, but with so much talent from across the world, the hope is that they can take pride in playing hard.
