EA Scraps Plans For a College Basketball Based Video Game
Sep 5, 2025
NBA 2K is one of the most popular video games in the world, and with the popularity of basketball continuing to soar, that should come as no surprise. However, some fans are looking for an alternative, and they believed they had found that when EA Sports revealed an exciting new venture.
Following the success of EA Sports College Football 25 and 26, many were clamouring for a basketball version of the college game. EA were seemingly on board, but now a recent report has revealed that the game has been officially cancelled.
According to a report from Matt Brown, the game went under after some colleges decided to join 2K rather than a completely new game, and it's a decision that unfortunately hasn't gone down well with fans. Many of those fans, like the ones of EA's College Football were excited to play a game that hasn't been around in over a decade, but those schools joining 2K put an end to any hopes of a college basketball game.
As a result, it's unclear if we'll ever get to see a new instalment in the EA Sports College Basketball series, but for variety in the market, this is a major blow, especially for those who want to see 2K's monopoly come to an end. Ultimately though, there's nothing much that can be done about it, as those colleges were crucial to the success of this game, and now the hope is the 2K does more with the college side of things than they have done in recent years.
