NBA Reporter Makes Shocking Prediction on Russell Westbrook's Free Agency Status
Aug 21, 2025
Russell Westbrook has had one of the best career's of any modern day point guard in the NBA, with the former MVP set to go down as one of this generations best players. However, as he ages, he's taken a major step back in production, with the 36-year old spending most of the 2024/25 season coming off the bench for the Denver Nuggets.
In 28 minutes a game, Westbrook was still able to average a solid 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, and given his experience, there are many teams out there that could use that coming off the bench. Despite some interest, Westbrook remains unsigned with the 2025/26 season approaching, and now, Sam Amico has stated that it wouldn't be a surprise to see him enter the new season without a team.
This would be a major shock for many however, as Westbrook remains very productive, and with great leadership and explosiveness off the bench, he could anchor the second unit for any team around the NBA.

At 36-years of age, there's only a handful more opportunities that Westbrook is going to get in the NBA, and if he can't find a team this summer, it's unclear what his role could be in the league moving forward. With a few months until the season officially kicks off, injuries and trades can change situations with teams quickly, so it's likely that he'll get a chance somewhere, but for now, don't be surprised if he doesn't have a team when the season begins.
