NBA Reporter Reveals the Shocking Players Jonathan Kuminga Wants to be Paid Like

The Golden State Warriors have been among the quietest teams in the NBA this offseason, but heading into the 2025-26 season, there's optimism that they can be an NBA Playoffs threat. However, there's one big issue looming over the franchise, and that is the situation involving Jonathan Kuminga, a talented young player who seemingly wants out, while the team insists that they aren't going to trade him.

That's led to a very uncomfortable situation with the franchise as training camp approaches, and now, it may have become clear just why the Warriors don't want to meet Kuminga's asking price.

In a recent report, Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle revealed that Kuminga believes he's on the same level as Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes, and believes he should be paid like them as well.

In the draft where both Cunningham and Barnes were top-five picks, Kuminga was selected seventh overall, and while he's flashed potential, he's simply not at the level of either player, both of whom have established themselves as All-Stars in the NBA.

After a stellar start to his NBA career, Cunningham was given a five-year, $269 million deal by the Pistons, so while Kuminga is a promising talent, there's no justification for him being worth anywhere near that money. As a result, all signs point to a trade coming between Golden State and one of the interested parties for Kuminga, and while he may blossom into a good NBA player one day, it's easy to see why the Warriors haven't handed the 22-year-old a big extension yet.
