Steph Curry Pushing the Warriors for a Reunion With Former Guard Gary Payton

The Golden State Warriors have been the NBA's quietest team thus far in the 2025 off-season, and with the new campaign right around the corner, it's unclear if a move is coming. That's left some fans underwhelmed as the belief is that this team can be a genuine NBA Championship threat in 2025/26, but if they don't make a move, it's going to be tough to convince fans of that.

While there's long been rumours about a potential Jonathan Kuminga trade, nothing has materialized on that front, but there is another move that could be coming. According to reports, Warriors superstar Steph Curry has been pushing the team to sign Gary Payton II after he was re-acquired by the team in 2022/23 following a free agency move to Portland.

Following the 2024/25 campaign, his three-year deal signed with the Trail Blazers came to an end, and with a very solid 7 points, 3 rebounds off the bench for them last season, it's clear he's become a valuable piece for them. Over his nine-year NBA career, Payton has spent five of them with the Warriors, averaging 6 points a game in this time, while also being valuable to the 2022 Championship winning team.

It's unclear just how many suitors the 32-year old veteran has in free agency this off-season, but after returning to Golden State following his last departure in free agency, it's clear he's meant to be a Warrior, and with Curry pushing hard, don't be shocked to see a deal get done.
