NBA Scout Provides Promising Update On Jayson Tatum's Return from Injury
Aug 18, 2025
Jayson Tatum had a fantastic season in 2023/24, winning the NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics in an incredible run, and last year, they appeared poised to repeat as Champions. While they would eventually fall to the Knicks, the bigger story for Boston was the injury to their star player, who was confirmed to have a torn achilles in heartbreaking fashion.
After hearing the diagnosis, many feared that Tatum would miss the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign, but the latest update has not been a bad one. When commenting on how Tatum looks early this off-season after surgery, an anonymous scout had this to say about Tatum:
"I’m no doctor, but I’ve seen guys coming back from Achilles’ tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving."
While this isn't a medical professional saying this, NBA scouts have been around players at their peak and players recovering from injury, so to hear this positivity around Tatum must be promising for Celtics fans. Last season, Tatum averaged 27 points a night and finished fourth in MVP voting, but in his absence the team have appeared to tear down the core that won them the 2024 NBA title.
That gives an indication that the organization are not expecting Tatum anywhere near 100% back on the floor next season, and while this is a very promising update on one of the NBA's biggest stars, he's still quite some time from a return to the league.
