Pelicans Star Jose Alvarado Stretchered Off After Suffering Scary Injury

Over the past few years, Jose Alvarado has become a fan favourite in New Orleans, with the defensive-minded guard putting on numerous highlights for the team in that time. The 27-year-old has made himself invaluable to this team, and with the organization looking to lock in a core, it's clear that he's become a key part of the franchise.

Unfortunately, the last thing that the Pelicans want to see is an injury to the talented guard, but on Thursday, he was injured in a very scary moment at the AmeriCup tournament quarterfinals against Argentina.

After a hard fall, Alvarado needed to be stretchered off the court in overtime, with his Puerto Rican team eventually coming up short , 82–77, against the powerhouse Argentina. Thankfully, the star guard confirmed shortly after that everything was okay, but for quite some time there, the Pelicans ’ front office, coaching staff, and fans had to be full of worry.

Heading into the 2025-26 season with New Orleans, Alvarado is set for a huge role again after averaging a career-high 10 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game last year. Alongside Trey Murphy and Herb Jones, this team has clearly built an identity, and Alvarado's scrappy style plays into that perfectly.

Thankfully, he'll be at 100% when that campaign begins despite the nasty fall he took against Argentina, with his toughness showing through once again as he and the Pelicans look to take a major step forward in 2025-26.
