Shaquille O'Neal Stands Up For Bam Adebayo Following Historic Performance
Mar 16, 2026
Recently, Bam Adebayo put together one of the most impressive games in NBA history, tallying 83 points against the Washington Wizards, placing him second all-time behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game. While there were question marks over how he got the job done, he indeed got it done, with 83 at any level, especially the NBA being incredibly impressive.
One other piece of criticism that Adebayo got was passing Kobe Bryant, who had 81 points back in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors, with some reports coming out and saying he should have stopped short of the 81 point mark. However, one surprising person has now come out and defended the Miami Heat big man, as Shaquille O'Neal believes he did the right thing in going for NBA history.
"I'm happy for Bam....A lot of people say 'he chased the record.' HE SHOULD. To all the little kids out there if you got a chance to make history, you go for it"
It's unclear why some believe that Adebayo should not have passed Bryant, as he isn't No. 1 all-time in single game scoring, and as the old saying goes, 'records are made to be broken', regardless of the circumstances.

Shaq is known for criticizing the modern players along with Charles Barkley, so for this to come from him should mean extra for Adebayo, who now sits in the record books right behind Chamberlain, with his name now alongside Bryant in league history.
