Connecticut Politician Calls Out The WNBA For Trying To 'Steal' the Sun Franchise

The Connecticut Sun have struggled for the past few seasons, but with the business of the WNBA booming, there hasn't been cause for concern. Until now that is, with a Connecticut politician recently making a shocking statement that could rock the future of the team, the city and the entire WNBA.
According to State Comptroller Sean Scanlon, the WNBA, the NBA and investors are combining to try and steal the team away from Connecticut to move them to Boston.
“They are trying to steal the team from Connecticut against the will of the owners of the team, and the fan base of Connecticut."
Reportedly, the owners of the Sun accepted an offer worth $325 million to move the team to Boston, but in a counter move, a separate group matched the offer with the intention of keeping the team in Connecticut, but moving them to Hartford. According to Scanlon, that is the preferred option, with the Mohegan Tribe (The Sun Owners) also wanting to keep them in Connecticut.
"It seemed like it was a done deal that they were going to Boston, when in reality.... the tribe wants to keep the team here in Connecticut."
Neither of the deals have gone through to the WNBA yet, with Scanlon urging the league to keep the team right where they are.
“And so the message is to the WNBA and the NBA that controls the WNBA, don’t take our team away. Approve this deal. Keep this team in Connecticut and let’s make sure that the Connecticut Sun stays in Connecticut.”
Regardless of what happens here, there will be monumental change to the WNBA as a result, and as of right now, Scanlon is one of many fighting to keep this team right where they are in Connecticut.
