Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Calls Out Those Who Ignore Him in GOAT Debates
Aug 20, 2025
In recent years, the debate over the NBA's Greatest Player of All Time has boiled down to LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan, and at this point, rightly so. Both players stand head and shoulders above 99% of players in NBA history, but there's one player that deserves more respect, and that's the player that James passed as the NBA's all-time leading scorer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
That was a topic that the Los Angeles Lakers legend recently addressed, and in doing so, he called out people that continue to ignore him in GOAT conversations.
“It makes me see that people don’t have a very good perspective.”
The NBA career of Abdul-Jabbar started way back in 1969, lasting up until 1989, and in that time the New York native collected six MVP awards, 15 All-NBA selections, 19 All-Star appearances, two scoring titles, ending his career with 38,387 total points in the regular season, an NBA record until it was recently broken by James. While he played the majority of his career alongside Magic Johnson, that doesn't take away any of his greatness, and with arguably the league's most un-blockable shot in the 'Sky Hook', Kareem was an icon for many generations of fans around the world.
While it's widely accepted now that MJ is the GOAT in the NBA, others have argued strongly for James, but throughout all of that, hopefully fans don't forget just what brilliance Abdul-Jabbar brought to the table throughout a long, illustrious career, and while he may not be the GOAT for the younger generations, he deserves to remain in the conversations.
