Indiana Pacers GM Addresses Increased Role for Andrew Nembhard Next Season
Aug 4, 2025
Over the past two NBA Playoffs, Andrew Nembhard became critical for the Indiana Pacers, with the sharp-shooting guard making his impact felt on both ends of the floor. While the Pacers fell short in the NBA Finals, Nembhard has established himself as a key piece of the future in Indiana as they look to claim their first NBA title in history.
Now, it appears Nembhard is set for a much bigger role in 2025/26 on the back of the devastating injury to Tyrese Haliburton in the Finals, with Pacers General Manager Chad Buchanan addressing an increased role for him.
“We’re asking him to run our team and be a little more assertive as a scorer… I think he’s ready for it… We believe in him.”
In his third NBA season in 2024/25, Nembhard posted 10 points a night with 5 assists and 3 boards in 29 minutes a night, but with Haliburton expected to miss the entire season, an expanded role for the 25-year-old Canadian star makes sense. With the loss of Myles Turner in free agency, this is going to mean plenty of change and growing pains for the Pacers, but with Nembhard having the potential to be a lead guard, this is the perfect time to test him out in that role as the team looks to adjust from a very successful campaign.
Only time will tell if the former No. 31 overall draft pick can become a lead guard in the NBA, but with the Pacers looking to adjust with T.J. McConnell as the only other point guard on the team, they've got time to give him a chance in the role.
