Russell Westbrook Makes More NBA History With Recent Achievement
Mar 18, 2026
There's been many superstars in the NBA over the course of its history, but in recent times, few have been disrespected like Russell Westbrook. The former MVP was once beloved, but as he has aged, his game hasn't quite fit in well everywhere he's been, and as a result, many fans forget just how dominant he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
While those days are well past him, Westbrook has still silently been playing incredibly well with the Sacramento Kings, averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists per game across 63 games played in 2025/26. On Tuesday, he put up 10 assists for the Kings, and in doing so, he continued to climb the NBA's all-time assist leaderboard, passing Steve Nash for 5th all-time on that list.
With that, Westbrook now has 10, 343 assists across his 17 year career, with the only players now ahead of him being LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul and the leader in helpers all-time, John Stockton.

With those numbers, Westbrook has also averaged an impressive 8.0 assists per game in his career, and while many remember the days of him being an elite scorer, his career has always been consistent with the assist numbers. Ultimately, Westbrook may end up top-five in rebounds, scoring and assists by a PG in league history, and while he may never be considered a top-five point guard, he's earned the respect of every single player and fan that's ever seen him play.
