SGA Talks About Staying Competitive When Dominating

Dominating night in and night out isn’t easy. That’s what the Oklahoma City Thunder have been doing for a couple of seasons now. Most nights, they are easily outmatching their opponents and grabbing wins by double-digit points.

Winning like this is fun, but it can also make it easier for teams to lose focus. When things come easy, it can allow teams to let their guards down. Then, when the playoffs roll around, they aren’t ready to play competitive, intense basketball.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the star of the Oklahoma City Thunder, doesn’t let things like this affect him.

"I don't think I've done anything. I think I just love competition. I love adversity. I love when things don't go my way. It just gives me an opportunity to grow and get better. It's easy to be super engaged when you're making every shot and you're up 20. But when you're in the thick of things and things aren't going your way, you really find out about yourself. Those are the moments and the games where I learn the most. So as bad as it may seem, I relish those moments, I appreciate those moments and I use them for good."

SGA knows that it is the hard moments that test you. SGA wants to be one of the greatest players to play the game; he wants to be tested and have tough times. That way, when he overcomes those moments, he can prove to the world just how great he is. So far, that’s exactly what he has been doing his entire career.
