New Report Reveals Why Bulls Coach Billy Donovan Could Leave This Season

For several years now, the Chicago Bulls have struggled to go beyond the play-in, and despite several changes to their roster, this is still a team without a clear path and direction for the future. One constant over that time has been Head Coach Billy Donovan, who has brought them to this level with no elite level players, with the talented coach garnering plenty of respect in the process.

However, with the team sitting at 29-46 on the season and eliminated from post-season contention, there will be plenty of questions to answer over the summer. One of those questions involves Donovan, but now, it's been reported that he may look to leave Chicago for one particular reason, and that is Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, Arturs Karnisovas.

“If Karnisovas stays, there’s a growing chance that Donovan walks at the end of the season. Then the Reinsdorfs will leave Karnisovas with a coaching search, a lottery draft choice, and free agent decisions with money to spend.”

According to Joe Cowley, if he stays in his role, there's a growing belief in Chicago that Donovan will want to be on the way out so that Karnisovas can pick not only their lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but a new Head Coach as well.

Ultimately, there will be plenty of interest in Donovan whether it be at the NBA level or in college if he does depart Chicago, but for a team that needs consistency, it would be a major loss.
