Luka Doncic Opens Up On The Wide Open MVP Race
Apr 1, 2026
The 2025/26 NBA MVP race has been full of incredible performances, and while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains the favorite, there's been some other players putting their name forth with great consistency as of late. The player perhaps with the strongest case for MVP beyond SGA is Victor Wembanyama, but with some incredible scoring outputs, Luka Doncic's name has come up more and more in discussions.
On Tuesday, he was at it yet again, as Doncic led the Lakers to a 15-2 record in the month of March after putting up 42 points in a massive victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was yet another amazing performance from the Lakers superstar, and now, he's been asked about the MVP race, but as of right now, it appears as though he's going to keep letting his play do the talking for him.
“I think I’ve played pretty good and we’ve been winning, so that’s it. That’s all I got to say.”
While there's still criticism of Doncic's play on the defensive side of the ball, there's no doubting the numbers that he's put up, as he still averages 34, 8 and 8, putting him among the elite players in the NBA in several different categories.

Ultimately, it would be a major upset if Doncic were to win MVP, but after his performances in the month of March and the way his team has been playing, he should be getting much, much more attention for MVP than he currently is.
