Golden State Warriors Reportedly Continuing Pursuit of Top Pelicans Star
Sep 17, 2025
Earlier this off-season, it was reported that the Golden State Warriors were targeting Trey Murphy III from the New Orleans Pelicans, but to that point, New Orleans hadn't shown much interest in moving him.
It's unclear how much has changed on that front as of late, but according to Jake Fischer, the Warriors haven't given up hope. In his latest report, Fischer reveals that Golden State is still actively in pursuit of the two-way star who could one day become a cornerstone of this lineup.
Last season, the 25-year-old averaged 21 points on 45% shooting from the field, career highs across the board, to go along with his great defense, five rebounds, and four assists per game. With the loss of Klay Thompson, Murphy would make the perfect replacement long-term, and with a lineup that already features Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler alongside Steph Curry, it's easy to see why Golden State is interested.

On paper, Murphy has everything that the Warriors could want in a long-term piece, but unfortunately for Golden State, there are many other teams interested in him as well—that is, if the Pelicans ever even consider moving their star two-way wing.
For now, they've remained adamant that they won't be moving Murphy, but if they get off to a slow start again and interest picks up in Zion Williamson, Murphy and Herb Jones, this could be a team that becomes interested in dealing Murphy to Golden State.
