Should KPJ Try to Beat Bam's 83 Points? His Teammate Weighs In
Mar 31, 2026
The NBA world was completely shocked a few weeks ago when Bam Adebayo scored 83 points in a single game. Not only was Bam one of the most unlikely stars to reach that mark, but he also passed the beloved Kobe Bryant, who had an 81-point game.
Kevin Porter Jr. is a huge Kobe fan, and didn’t love that Bam took his record. KPJ then claimed that he was going to try and beat Bam’s record himself out of respect for Kobe. Bobby Portis, one of KPJ’s teammates on the Bucks, was asked about this and had an interesting response.

“I’m on the fence about it. I like it because dang, someone really got 80 points. But it’s just the way you did it. Being up 20-30 points—most of the time it’s respect for the game. You want to let other guys get their opportunities.
I think in Kobe’s game it was just different—real baskets, fadeaways, tough shots. It was everything you wanted it to be. KP [Kevin Porter Jr.]…he’s one of those guys that love Kobe, and these Kobe and LeBron fans are crazy.”
KPJ is one of those players who could actually score an insane amount of points in a single game. His career high is 50 points, but he reached that in 2021, way before he became the scoring threat that he is today.
Still, for a player to get into the 60s or 70s (not to mention the 80s) in scoring, everything has to break right. Do we really think that KPJ is going to be the guy that happens for? Probably not.
