Rob Pelinka's Job In Los Angeles Reportedly On The Line This Season
Feb 10, 2026
The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most successful organizations in the history of the NBA, but in recent years, things haven't quite been going to plan. Despite landing one of the biggest stars in the league in the shocking Luka Doncic trade, this is a team that hasn't been on a deep run since their 2020 NBA Championship, and now, the pressure is mounting.
At the 2026 trade deadline, the team failed to land a massive upgrade, but as they currently sit in fifth in the Western Conference, the expectations are growing once more. With those expectations comes very high pressure, and according to new reports, that may result in a move in the front office, with reports that unless the team go on a deep run, it could mean the end of Rob Pelinka's time with the organization.
“Unless they catch fire in the second half of the year, unless they really come on and make a run in the playoffs, it’s got to be on life support."
The Lakers are yet to return to the Finals since 2020 despite having the likes of Doncic, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and with the roster in flux moving forward, the question marks may continue around Pelinka.

Ultimately, this is a team that expects to play for Championships, and if they can't at least make the Western Conference Finals under Doncic this season, there's a very good chance the organization look to make a change in the front office.
