NBA Insider Puts A Timeline On The Utah Jazz Potentially Buying Out Kevin Love
Sep 9, 2025
Earlier this off-season, Kevin Love was sent to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal between Los Angeles, Utah and Miami that also involved Norman Powell and John Collins. This left the veteran forward in a position with Utah that remain a rebuilding squad, leading many to believe that he wouldn't be sticking around for long.
That remains the expectation around the NBA, with most believing that Love will be bought out in time to test the free agent market before the 2025/26 season. Now, reporter Sam Amico has revealed that the decision on Love should come in the next few weeks as the Jazz look to clear his contract from the books and move forward with their young core.
At 37-years of age, Love isn't the player that he once was, and will likely only serve as a depth piece for a team moving forward, with a contending team likely to be interested in the veteran. In 2024/25 with the Miami Heat, Love averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds in 11 minutes a game over 23 appearances, showing that when he's needed, he can still be a very effective NBA player in limited minutes.

Given the amount of wear and tear on Love's body, it's highly unlikely that he'll be playing in the NBA for much longer, but given that he still produced in 2024/25, at least for now he remains motivated to stay in the league. When he is bought out, there will be several teams interested in the veteran, and heading into the new season, he's expected to be on a team somewhere.
