"A Sick Joke": Sophie Cunningham Reacts To Photoshoot Of Injured Indiana Fever Teammates
Sep 9, 2025
Sophie Cunningham can only cheer from the sidelines as the Indiana Fever embark on a second consecutive trip to the WNBA playoffs. Though her season-ending injury was a huge blow to her career, it appears that Cunningham has managed to cope with the situation.
Case in point: When the Indiana Fever posted a clip showing five players who were sidetracked by the injury bug, Cunningham chimed in with a sarcastic comment.
"A sick joke," the Fever guard tweeted.
Front and center in the video clip was Caitlin Clark, the Fever superstar who was projected by many fans to once again contend for the MVP award. Clark, however, was unable to put up a worthy sequel to her sensational rookie season as a quad strain and a groin injury limited her to 13 games in 2025.
To Clark's right are wing players Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby. Signing with Indiana in the offseason, Colson brought defensive intensity and veteran leadership to the Fever roster. Unfortunately, the two-time WNBA champion went down in early August with an ACL tear. Bibby, meanwhile, joined the Fever on a seven-day contract as the team's injuries started to pile up. Knee issues would then sideline the Australian forward for the rest of the season.

The two other players in the clip were Cunningham and Aari McDonald. Also joining the Fever as a reliever for sidelined guards, McDonald quickly came into her own on both ends of the floor. However, on the same night that Colson tore her ACL, McDonald suffered a fracture in her right foot.
Amidst all these injury woes, the Fever were able to find a way to get into the top eight of the WNBA standings. This past Sunday, they finally clinched a playoff berth when they blew out the Washington Mystics 94-65.
Sporting a 23-20 record with just a game left in their season, the Fever currently hold the seventh seed in the playoffs. They will finish in seventh place no matter how the Seattle Storm (22-21) or the LA Sparks (20-22) close out their season. As resilient as the Fever have proven themselves to be, they will have to brace themselves for a first-round matchup with the Atlanta Dream, the Las Vegas Aces, or the Phoenix Mercury.
