New York Knicks Officially Favoured To Sign Former No. 1 Pick Ben Simmons
Aug 7, 2025
The New York Knicks have turned their franchise around in recent years, and this offseason, they've been incredibly busy as well. In the past few months, the team has named Mike Brown as Head Coach while adding Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency, but it appears they aren't done yet.
The Knicks have one final spot remaining on their roster to fill with a veteran minimum, with the team reportedly looking at several names such as Landry Shamet, Malcolm Brogdon, and Ben Simmons, among others. Now, NBA Insider Brett Siegel has revealed who the favorite is to land that role, and it comes after much speculation over the past month.
According to Siegel, it was both the Knicks and Celtics in the running to add the former No. 1 overall pick, but after Boston signed Chris Boucher, it made the Knicks the clear favorite to sign Simmons. While some fans have been against the move, Simmons would provide value off the bench as another ball handler and one of the best defenders in the NBA when healthy, perfectly fitting what this team needs off the bench.
Last season, the 29-year-old averaged just 5.0 points a night, but he contributed 6 assists and 5 rebounds, and given all the scoring that the Knicks would have around him, he'd be a solid role player for this team. It's unclear if the talented, yet injury-prone, Simmons wants a veteran minimum or will hold out for a bigger deal, but if he wants the chance to chase an NBA title, there's no better landing spot than New York.
