Patrick Beverley Reignites Russell Westbrook Rivalry With Recent Comments
Sep 16, 2025
Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook’s relationship hasn’t always been friendly. Remember back in the 2013 NBA playoffs when Beverley tried to steal a ball from Westbrook as he called a timeout and ended up crashing into him, tearing Russell’s meniscus? That was just the start.

For the next few years, as their teams battled it out in regular-season and playoff games, it was always clear that there was no love lost between the two point guards. There was the time when Westbrook repeatedly did his “rock the baby” celebration after scoring on Beverley.
Westbrook famously later said, “Pat Bev trick y’all, man, like he plays defense. He don’t guard nobody, man. It’s just running around, doing nothing.”
Beverley responded years later when Westbrook was playing terribly in LA, tweeting: “I remember when somebody said all I do is run around and I trick y’all 😂 Well, my boy is The Real Magician this year.”
That’s why when Beverley was recently asked on his podcast The Pat Bev Podcast,
“All in their primes, one of them has to go: Allen Iverson, Kyrie Irving, D Rose, or Westbrook?”
He responded by leaving Westbrook off the list. While this could be considered a dig at Westbrook, it is admittedly a difficult question. At their peak, all of these players were top all-time NBA point guards.
Beverley also admitted that he felt terrible leaving Westbrook out. He claims he had just seen Westbrook a few days ago and they had “chopped it up.” Maybe their brief stint playing together on the Los Angeles Lakers healed some old wounds.
Even so, Westbrook surely won’t like being left out of this elite point guard club. Could the rivalry be reignited?
