Over the past few weeks, the Jonathan Kuminga situation in Golden State has been ever changing, with the future up in the air for the 22-year old rising star. Despite being offered several contracts by the Warriors, Kuminga is yet to sign one and lock in his future, with many believing that he wants to be traded by the team.
There has reportedly been interest out there as well, with the likes of Phoenix and Sacramento both offering the Warriors significant trade packages to land Kuminga. Now though, things have taken another turn, with NBA Insider Brett Siegel releasing the latest update on the situation with Golden State and their former No. 7 overall pick.
According to Siegel, the Warriors are officially shutting down any trade talk around Kuminga, denying any reports that if the Kings up their offer and release the protection on a first-round pick a deal would get done. While this doesn't mean trade talks can't pick back up again before the season or even at the trade deadline, as of right now, the team are focused on keeping the 22-year old heading into the 2025/26 campaign.
Despite not developing the way they would have hoped, Kuminga has still averaged 15.5 points a game over the past two seasons, with the young star believing that he is deserving of a much bigger role. At this point in time, the Warriors appear hesitant to give him that role with the likes of Butler, Curry and Green still leading the way, but as of right now, they head into the 2025/26 season with visions of him on the team playing a key role moving forward.
