New Report Reveals Disconnect Between Orlando Magic Star And Their Head Coach
Jan 28, 2026
The Orlando Magic entered the 2025–26 NBA season full of hype, with many expecting them to build on a solid year last year to become a top-tier contender in the wide-open Eastern Conference. However, the Magic currently have a record of 23–22 as they sit in eighth place in the overall standings, and with question marks over this young core, it's unclear how far they can go this season.
With several players averaging 15 or more points, the talent is there, but until the consistency follows, the question marks will not go away. Now, another reason behind their struggles for momentum and consistency has emerged, as Tim MacMahon is reporting that star forward Paolo Banchero and head coach Jamahl Mosley are not seeing eye-to-eye.
It's unclear exactly what that means and how it's rubbed off on the team, but given that their best player and coach aren't on the same page, it's easy to see why the team has failed to find their best form early in 2025–26. Despite these issues, Banchero is averaging 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, as he looks to take this team to the next level with a young core that includes Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, and Anthony Black, among others.

Ultimately, for a team to be a true contender for an NBA Championship, the entire roster needs to be on the same page, and while we don't know the details of the issues between Mosley and Banchero, they need to sort things out quickly if they are to turn it around.
