NBA Release Latest Power Rankings; Surprise Team At No. 1
Feb 9, 2026
The 2026 NBA season has been a whole lot of fun for fans thus far, and with the All-Star Game and the NBA Playoffs rapidly approaching, things are starting to take shape for 30 teams around the league. Some are tanking, others are figuring out whether they can compete, while others are firmly solidifying themselves as genuine contenders to the Oklahoma City Thunder's crown as NBA Champions.
However, with the All-Star break right around the corner, there are teams in the league that have completely separated themselves at the top, with a select few seen as legitimate NBA title threats in 2026. Those were recently ranked by the league following the trade deadline, and after an incredible start to the season, the Detroit Pistons have found themselves atop the latest NBA rankings.
Following the Pistons are the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, but after taking a leap in 2024/25, the Detroit Pistons are one of the top stories and teams in the entire league. With Cade Cunningham taking his play to an MVP level this season and the depth around them, it's very easy to see why many see them as a genuine threat this year.

Whether or not the Pistons can make the NBA Finals in 2026, only time will tell, but with Cunningham and J.B. Bickerstaff leading the way, it's easy to see why many see them as one of, if not the top team in the NBA right now.
