Jeanie Buss Seemingly Doubtful That LeBron James Will Return To The Lakers In The Off-Season

Many years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers made the massive signing of LeBron James, and after their struggles in the post-Kobe Bryant era, this was seen as a potentially franchise changing move for the historic organization. While they've not made the NBA Finals in five years, his stint with the team began with a bang as they won their 17th NBA Championship under James back in the 2020 bubble season.

However, since the acquisition of Luka Doncic, it's clearly become the Slovenian stars team, and with Austin Reaves making the perfect back court pairing, it appears as though everyone is ready to move on from LeBron. With the 41-year old being a free agent this summer, many believe he's ready to move on, and while Jeanie Buss didn't rule it out in her recent comments, she sounded 'doubtful' that he would re-sign with the team.

“Never say never, but you know, he certainly hasn’t given an indication. He’s earned the right to decide how his career will go, and you know, he continues to impress.”

As of right now, LeBron hasn't given any indication on whether he'll re-sign, retire or go elsewhere in free agency, but given that he can still get it done at a high level, many expect him to play on in 2026/27.

Ultimately, given all that he's done in the NBA, it's James' choice where he goes next and what he does with his career, and while many in LA would welcome him back, all signs now point to him departing this summer.
