Former Boston Celtic Grant Williams Explains Why Jayson Tatum Is Better Than Luka Doncic
Feb 27, 2026
The NBA's past generation was lucky to be led by the likes of Steph Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant, but now, it's time for the future of the league. We've seen players step up to dominate while others appear to be a few years from stardom, but among those are players with immense talent now and potential for the future, with the likes of Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum fitting this category perfectly.
These are seen as two players that have already established themselves as stars in the NBA, but as both are still in their 20's, they'll be faces of the league for a few years yet to come. Both can argue that they are among the best in the NBA, but according to former Tatum teammate Grant Williams, now with the Charlotte Hornets, it's Tatum that's the better player.
“JT impacts winning more…The way he impacts winning is unprecedented. He impacts the game at every facet. He can defend, he’s a playmaker, he can score. He’s a 6’10 wing that can do it all.”
Both have already led their teams to the NBA Finals, and while Tatum got the job done, Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks fell short back in 2024... against Tatum and the Celtics.

Ultimately, both are currently the face of the two most iconic franchises in NBA history, and while every other team would love to have either one, as of right now, it's highly debatable who is the best, even if Williams has made up his mind.
