Stephen A Smith Talks About Dislike of LeBron James
Feb 27, 2026
There are countless rivalries between players in teams in the NBA. Rivalries are some of what makes the sport so fun to watch and follow. When we think of basketball, we think of Magic Johnson vs Larry Bird or LeBron James vs Stephen Curry. Those matchups are what make for the best basketball and the best storylines in the league.
One type of rivalry that we don’t hear as much about is between players and media members. Sure, there are definitely players around the league who have their favored media members and outlets, abut rarely do we see players and specific media members actively dislike each other.

That isn’t the case with LeBron James and Stephen A. Smith. Those two have had a bubbling dislike of one another for years, and it’s fueled some pretty fun Stephen A. Smith rants.
“We don’t like each other. The world needs to know that.. I hope he’s watching. I think he crossed the line with the incident involving his son. I don’t think I did what he said I was doing. I thought that was unfair and a low blow… Time heals everything. As I see his career dwindling, it’s important everyone knows that I know how great he is. I know how great he has been for the game of basketball. Anybody who has been that great, people like me have benefited because he gives us something to talk about. He’s provided a certain amount of entertainment that has made an exponential amount of lives better. Just because he and I have a difference, doesn’t mean he’s not a good man.”
It seems like something got personal between LeBron and Stephen A, but it hasn’t clouded Stephen A’s respect for LeBron’s greatness. The fact that Stephen A can admit that shows a lot of growth from a man who used to speak emotionally and without thought.
