ESPN Reveals The Future For Trae Young In Atlanta Is 'Murky'
Sep 11, 2025
Ever since arriving in the NBA, Trae Young has been one of the best volume scorers in the league, and while his efficiency isn't elite, he's been good and very consistent for the Atlanta Hawks to this point. However, with other players in his class getting historic, long-term deals, nothing seems to be moving forward with Young and the Hawks, with question marks over his future in Atlanta.
Now, ESPN's Tim MacMahon has addressed the situation, revealing that Young's future in Atlanta is seen as 'murky' by most around the league, with the 26-year old eligible for a long-term extension.
This comes after a summer in which the team attempted to put some great talent around Young, adding Kristaps Porzingis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to a team that was already taking strides forward. With Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher on the younger side, the future in Atlanta appears to be bright, but as of right now, it's unclear if they want to pay Young to be a part of it.

Sure, he isn't quite at the level of a Luka Doncic or a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but Young has been a fantastic leader for this team, giving Atlanta an identity, something they've been seeking for decades. There's still some time before the 2025/26 season for these parties to work out a long-term extension, but if that doesn't get done, all eyes will be on Young and the Hawks heading into the new season as he may become a trade candidate for them.
