Jeff Teague Urges Ben Simmons To Walk Away From NBA
Sep 9, 2025
With the 2025-26 NBA season set to tip off in a matter of weeks, Ben Simmons remains unsigned. While some are rooting for the former All-Star to find a new NBA home, one player-turned-podcaster has a different idea for Simmons' immediate future.
In a recent clip from the "Club 520" podcast, Jeff Teague has voiced out the idea that retirement could be the best option for Simmons moving forward.
"We'd love for you to come sit down with us and talk. Because, yeah, it's over," Teague said dismissively in the clip.
Teague, who last played in the NBA back in the 2020-21 season, pointed to Simmons' physical shape as a major red flag against the continuation of his career.
"Y'all seen him when he was playing. He can't move no more, bro," Teague commented.
Simmons, who sat out an entire year due to a fractured foot before making his debut in 2017, arguably reached his NBA peak within his first four years in the league. From 2019 to 2021, the 6-foot-10 Australian playmaker averaged 15.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game for the Philadelphia 76ers.

However, Simmons' stock went down significantly in the 2021 playoffs when his hesitation to shoot the ball became increasingly apparent. During one sequence in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Simmons infamously passed up a point-blank field goal attempt at the rim, opting instead to pass the ball.
After a holdout situation that involved Simmons being fined multiple times for missing games, the three-time All-Star was dealt to the Brooklyn Nets in a trade involving James Harden. Simmons would then be waived by the Nets in early 2025, leading him to sign a one-year contract with the LA Clippers.
Though teams like the New York Knicks have shown interest in Simmons, he remains among the ranks of free agents with less than two months left before the next season begins. It's entirely plausible that he'll find a new NBA home sooner rather than later, but if he were to take Teague's advice, his NBA career would finally come to an end in light of his declining physical condition.
