LeBron James Reportedly Uncertain About His Future Beyond 2025/26

During the 2025/26 season, LeBron James will turn 41, and as a result, many expect his career in the NBA to start winding down in the coming years. However, last season the Los Angeles Lakers star still looked tremendous, with some around the league believing that he could play until at least 45-years of age.

One person that always seems in the know regarding James is long-time reporter Brian Windhorst, and when recently asked about LeBron's future, he revealed that not even LeBron is firm in his future plans.

“He’s going year to year. Could this be his last year? Yes. Will it be his last year? I don’t know. Does he know right now? Maybe. My interpretation is that it has not been established. He will see where he’s at the end of the year.”

What this says is that LeBron could continue playing for multiple years, or he could have a goal heading into 2025/26, and if the Lakers achieve said goal, he may be content with walking away. Regardless of his feelings heading into the season, LeBron has established himself as an all-time great in the NBA, with nothing that will happen in the next few years being able to change that.

Ultimately, whenever LeBron does hang it up, it will mark a major change in the NBA as he has been a constant for over 20 years now, but as of right now, we simply don't know when his official retirement will be coming.
