Cleveland Cavaliers Open To The Return Of A Franchise Legend
Jan 28, 2026
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the NBA's top teams over the past two decades, and while that's mainly thanks to hometown kid LeBron James, they've had plenty of other talented players too. Since James' departure for a second time, the team has built around the likes of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Donovan Mitchell, and while they're yet to return to the NBA Finals, this is still a talented team and a top contender in the East.
Now, it appears as though the team could welcome back the greatest player in franchise history, with a new report from Dave McMenamin revealing that the team is open to one final reunion with LeBron.
This comes off the back of reported tension in Los Angeles, and while it's unclear whether or not the team is going to bring back James in free agency, as of right now, if he plays on for at least one more year, there's a chance that he tests the free agency market. If that is the case, it appears that Cleveland would welcome him back, and given that he still averages 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists per game, he could no doubt help this young core take the final step.

At 41 years of age, this season may be James's last in the NBA, but if it isn't, he should command plenty of interest, and if that's the case, expect Cleveland to offer him a big deal to retire with the franchise that started it all.
