Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama Make NBA History In Latest Performance
Jan 28, 2026
The NBA has seen plenty of first overall pick busts throughout history, with the likes of Anthony Bennett immediately coming to mind when discussing that topic. However, in recent years, we've seen nothing but stars at the position, with the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Cade Cunningham, and Anthony Edwards all starring at the NBA level already.
Among all of those picks, it's believed that Wembanyama and Edwards are the two with the highest ceiling in the NBA, and if the start to their careers is anything to go by, we are watching two all-time greats blossom before our eyes. In a recent matchup, the two put on phenomenal performances and, in doing so, scored the highest amount of points by dueling No. 1 overall picks since 1966.
With 39 for Wemby and 55 for Edwards, the duo combined for 94 points, which is the highest by two No. 1 overall picks in the past 60 years, showing just how good the future of the NBA can be. Neither player is older than 24, either, meaning both hopefully have at least another 15 years ahead of them in the NBA, and if they're this good in their early 20s, it's crazy to think where both will be in the years to come.

Ultimately, there are some other great talents coming into the league year after year, but if there are any two players to bet on becoming superstars long-term in the NBA, it's Edwards and Wemby, and this latest matchup proved just that.
