Can You Win an NBA Championship With Luka Dončić?
Apr 1, 2026
There has been an ongoing debate on what kind of player can lead a team to an NBA championship. We have seen all sorts of different play styles have success in the NBA, but are there certain ones that can only take a player so far?
A lot of fans and media members tend to believe that the heliocentric style of players like James Harden or Luka Dončić makes it very difficult to win four playoff rounds in a row. We saw Harden for years fall short in the playoffs, despite being one of the two or three best players in the league at the time. Luka has also fallen short in the playoffs, but he is still in his prime.

So, can Luka do what Harden hasn’t been able to do? Not only lead a team to the NBA Finals, but actually take home the trophy. Max Kellerman recently went on the Game Over show and spoke about the similarities between Harden and Luka.
“Luka so far has been James Harden 2.0…we’ve seen him take a team deep into the playoffs — so did Harden but it doesn’t result in a championship…if one dude is dribbling the ball to death and no one else is touching the ball…that’s not going to work…”
It’s true that neither of these guys has been able to grab that coveted NBA championship, but is it their offensive play style that is to blame? For Harden, he had the Golden State Warriors stopping him from winning it all, hardly his fault that he happened to peak during the rise and dominance of the greatest team of all-time.
And for Luka, there is still a lot of time to prove Kellerman wrong. With the right pieces around him, there’s no reason why Luka shouldn’t be able to lead a team to an NBA championship.
