Russell Westbrook Reveals the Brutal Injury He Played With During the 2025 Season

Russell Westbrook was given plenty of criticism for his play with the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets over the past few seasons, and the 2024/25 campaign for the veteran point guard was absolutely no different. Despite his scoring numbers being down to 13 points a night, Russ was seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting, and gave the Nuggets a fantastic spark off the bench, even if he had some massive mistakes in big time games.

Now, his campaign has become even more impressive, as a recent appearance at the ESPY's showed the brutal injury that the 36-year old played with throughout the season.

According to reports, Westbrook played through two fractures to his shooting hand throughout the 2024/25 campaign, with the photo from the ESPY's showing the brutal aftermath of the surgeries he had to fix the issues. Despite this, he managed to shoot 45% from the field on the year while playing in 28 minutes a night over 75 games, tallying 6 assists and five boards a night to go along with his 13 points a game.

Still, with the injury, his age and potential contract demands, Westbrook currently remains a free agent, and it's unclear whether or not he'll be able to play at a high level again after dealing with this injury, but seeing how he played through the injuries this past season, hope is high in the Westbrook camp that he can still be a very effective player at the NBA level.
