Draymond Green Reveals He Is Open To A Move To The Bench In Golden State
Apr 1, 2026
For a long time, Draymond Green has been a key piece of the puzzle for the Golden State Warriors, helping lead this organization to four NBA Championships over the past 15 years. While his role extends beyond the simple x's and o's on the floor, Green has always excelled in the role he's been given, and while he may not get the accolades of Steph Curry, he's more than earned icon status for the Warriors.
However, as he ages, it's clear that Green's play has taken a major hit as well, but given his loyalty to the Warriors, he continues to give his all for the organization. Recently however, he was asked about a potential move to the bench as Golden State look to the future, and in a humble move, he admits that he'd be open to that role, and will do whatever Steve Kerr needs of him moving forward.
“I fear ever becoming one of those guys that everybody else knows their time is up but me. I just never want to be that guy. Ego and entitlement can very much lead you to be that guy.”
In 2025/26, Green has appeared in 62 games for the Warriors, and in that time he's averaged 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game, once again being a key facilitator of the offense given the injuries to Curry and Jimmy Butler.

For now, only time will tell how long Draymond will last in Golden State and what his role will be, but this statement is one that will allow the team some major flexibility moving forward.
