Phoenix Suns Owner Calls Out Other NBA Owners For Tanking
Feb 26, 2026
Ever since taking over as the Phoenix Suns owner, Mat Ishbia has been making comments that make headlines around the NBA, and now, he's at it again. While tanking has been a thing in professional sports in North America for the longest time, in recent months, it's become the biggest story in the entire NBA.
Teams like Detroit, San Antonio and Oklahoma City are among the best in the NBA, and while all three of them got there by tanking, now that small market teams like Utah, Indiana and Charlotte have been doing it, it's all of a sudden a problem for Adam Silver. He's not the only one against it however, as Ishbia recently came out and called out tanking teams, or more specifically, called out the owners of those teams that are encouraging it.
“Tanking is a loser mentality. It’s an embarrassment. It’s horrible… and it’s bad for the NBA.”
Obviously, Ishbia didn't call any owners out by name, but given the NBA's push to outlaw tanking, it's easy to see why owners would get on board and continue trying to take down the idea of tanking in the league.

Ultimately, tanking is never going away in sports, as some teams need the hope of landing a generational prospect to lead the way, and even if Adam Silver tries to make rules to outlaw it, these small market teams need hope for the future, and that won't change anytime soon.
