Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks Have Discussed Trade of Two Big Men
Jan 27, 2026
The New York Knicks made some big changes to their roster over the past 18 months, adding Karl-Anthony Towns as the centerpiece of a trade ahead of the 2024–25 season. While there was some success last year, the fit around Towns has drawn mixed reviews at times, leading to outside speculation about his long-term future in New York, despite the team not actively shopping him.
However, he's not the only big man that the team could be ready to move on from, with recent chatter surrounding Guerschon Yabusele as a player the team is looking to move. Additionally, Evan Sidery has reported that the team has had talks with the Phoenix Suns, with the expectation that both parties could explore a Yabusele for Nick Richards deal.
On paper, this is a deal that would work for both sides, as Yabusele gives the Suns the upside and the future potential, while Richards would be a consistent performer off the bench for the Knicks, especially if they move Towns. If that does happen, Richards could play a larger role in New York, and while nothing is imminent, league chatter suggests both teams have at least explored the idea.

Ultimately, the Knicks may be looking for a shakeup, and while Towns remains a major part of their plans, adding a defensively reliable center like Richards could help address roster balance as they look ahead to future postseason runs.
