Philadelphia 76ers Sign Familiar Face In Cameron Payne

The last time the Philadelphia 76ers were in the NBA Playoffs was back in 2023/24 when they took on the New York Knicks, and this season, they're looking to get back there behind their young core. While it's Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe leading the way, they've still got a veteran core with Joel Embiid and Paul George, and with some very solid depth around them, this team are very optimistic.

That hasn't stopped them making some moves however, as they've now turned to a very familiar face, signing veteran guard Cameron Payne as a free agent, with the 31-year old coming off a stint overseas.

Sure, Payne isn't going to play regular minutes for this team, but after what we saw him do in that playoff series against the Knicks in limited minutes, it's easy to see why the Sixers like this signing. In 10 EuroLeague games this season, Payne averaged 12.4 points and 4 assists in 23 minutes of action, and now, he's likely to replace the limited minutes that Jared McCain was giving the team before his trade to Oklahoma City.

As a cheap, reliable option in free agency, Payne is a great pickup for this Sixers team, and while he's likely not going to play a huge role for the current No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, he will be a reliable option in a pinch if they need him for a few minutes per game.
