Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers robbed the Dallas Mavericks in what appeared to be at the time one of the most lopsided trades in not only NBA history, but all of sports in North America. Since that point, things have only gotten better for the Lakers, as Doncic leads the NBA in scoring at 33 points per game, showing why he deserves to be in the MVP conversation in 2025/26.
As of late, he's taken his game to another level, as he put on one of the best back-to-back performances in NBA history, posting 40/10/9 and backing it up a night later on Thursday with 60/3/7. This has catapulted him into the MVP discussions, with many now seeing the Lakers as a genuine NBA Championship threat on the back of his incredible play as of late.
That's led to some big time takes in the NBA world, but perhaps the biggest came from Lakers legend James Worthy, who had this praise for Doncic.
“Historically The Lakers have had clutch players. Kareem with the sky hook. Magic with his play. Kobe, Shaq. But I don’t think we’ve ever had one as consistent and dominant as Luka Doncic”
As Worthy mentions, this is an organization full of the biggest stars in league history, but given his play as of late, he believes Doncic is the best closer the team have ever had.
Obviously, that's incredibly high praise, but given what Worthy has seen, he likely believes this, and with Doncic locked in long-term, we could be seeing the start of another dynasty in Los Angeles.
