JB Bickerstaff Becomes The Latest Head Coach To Call Out NBA Officials
Dec 19, 2025
The Detroit Pistons shocked the NBA world a season ago when they turned things around to make a playoff push, and this season, they've gone from strength to strength. With a record of 21–6, they currently sit 1.5 games clear at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, and with this young team still having plenty of assets, there's an expectation that they could win the East this year.
However, they've still had issues with the NBA officials, something that head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has been vocal about in recent years. Now, he's made those issues known publicly once again, as he addressed the officials following their loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, calling them out for coming into the game without objectivity.
“A referee makes a comment to me night after night — that’s how our interactions are. That tells me the referee is coming into the game without being objective.
I want to make this clear: this game is not about the referees. It was a highly contested game between two very competitive teams, with guys who laid it all on the line. But the lack of objectivity needs to be addressed based on what happened on the floor tonight.”
He's certainly not the only person to call out the NBA officials this season, following in the footsteps of Ime Udoka and others, as this is clearly becoming a major issue.

It's unclear whether this will lead to a fine for Bickerstaff, but the more he calls out the officials, the more likely it is that the NBA will start to take notice.
