Gary Payton II Reveals Interesting New Venture Beyond Basketball
Sep 2, 2025
Gary Payton was born into basketball, as his father was one of the best defenders in NBA history, and unsurprisingly, those genes combined with his talent have led him to success in the league. In nine years in the NBA, Payton has averaged six points a night while helping the Warriors to the 2022 NBA Championship, with the 32-year old already having a very successful NBA career.
Now, he appears to be planning for life after the league, as he has announced a very intriguing new business outside of the world of basketball.
According to a report from ESPN, Payton is launching a skateboarding league, with the talented NBA veteran revealing the thoughts and motivations behind the move.
"Growing up, I always wanted to be a skateboarder. The skate park was right next to the basketball court, I'd skate there with my friends and they'd skate the park and I'd hoop."
For those that don't know Payton, this type of venture may come as a surprise, but growing up next to a basketball court and a skate park, the two things simply became two of his biggest loves. Throughout his NBA career thus far, Payton has earned well over $30 million, and with skateboarding being a major passion, he's ready to fund it to shine the light on talented skateboarders everywhere.
It's unclear when this will launch with no details around it revealed, but as of right now it's a very intriguing way to go post retirement for the veteran as he continues to look at life beyond the NBA.
